The Best Seat in the House

Every September, as summer starts to slow down, the coastline gets one last burst of energy with the Quiksilver Festival. For a week, Seignosse and Hossegor become the centre of the surfing world, with world-class competition, film premieres, live music, demos, beach culture and that unmistakable buzz that only happens when the surf community comes together.

One thing we’ve always loved about staying at the surfhouse during festival week is how little you need to think about transport. Leave the car where it is. Most of the festival is an easy walk or bike ride away, and depending on the day’s conditions, you can wander between the contest, the village, cafés and beach without ever feeling like you’re rushing.

It’s also a reminder that surfing isn’t just something to watch.

Whether you’re completely new to surfing or you’ve been at it for years, there’s something pretty special about spending the day in the water yourself before heading down to watch some of the world’s best do the same thing at a very different level. It’s a week where inspiration is everywhere—from first waves to perfect barrels.

For us, that’s what the Quiksilver Festival has always been about. Not just the competition, but the atmosphere. Riding to the beach with a board under your arm, meeting people from all over the world, sharing stories over dinner, then finishing the day watching the sun disappear behind the dunes after another memorable session.

If there is a better way to close out a European summer, we haven’t found it yet.
