How we teach
One conversation Manu, our supercoach, and I kept returning to throughout last season was about what people really come here for.
More and more often, we see guests arriving with one clear expectation: they want waves. They want to be taken into the water, pushed onto waves, told exactly where to sit, which ones to take, and when to go. And to be clear — that approach can work in the short term. It delivers quick rides, fast gratification, and the feeling of “success.”
But it doesn’t create surfers.
What it creates is reliance.
At Surf Camp Seignosse, what we want is something deeper and far more lasting. We want our guests to leave with understanding, not just memories of waves caught.
We focus on helping surfers learn how to read the ocean for themselves. To see the difference between a good wave and an average one. To understand how energy moves through a sandbank, how sets arrive in pulses, how peaks shift with the tide, and why a lineup changes over the course of a session.
This is where real surfing begins.
A big part of our teaching is learning to work with energy rather than fighting it. Knowing when to paddle hard — and just as importantly, when not to. Knowing when to sit still and observe, when to reposition quietly, and when to commit fully. These decisions don’t come from being told what to do; they come from awareness.
We also place strong emphasis on visual awareness and crowd dynamics. Surfing isn’t done in isolation, especially in popular areas. Understanding who is around you, how people move, where waves are breaking, and how to position yourself safely and respectfully is essential — not only for progression, but for confidence and enjoyment.
Our instructors don’t just put you on waves. They help you see what’s happening. They ask questions. They encourage observation. They give you tools so that, little by little, you start making your own decisions in the water.
The goal is simple: to help you become independent.
Independent enough to paddle out on your own.
Independent enough to choose the right wave.
Independent enough to adapt when conditions change.
Because surfing isn’t about being guided forever. It’s about developing a relationship with the ocean — one built on patience, timing, awareness, and trust.
That’s the kind of surfing that stays with you long after you leave Seignosse.
Surfing feels like me
Surfing is time away from the world — from screens, noise, and pressure. In the ocean, nothing exists but the present moment. It challenges you, empties your mind, and brings you back to yourself. Over time, you realise something simple and powerful: surfing feels like me.

The best way to enjoy surfing
Here’s our step-by-step approach, created to help you slow down, feel grounded, and truly connect — guiding you gently through your surfing journey, from that first wave where something quietly shifts inside you, to a deeper understanding of the rhythm of the ocean and your own place within it.
“How do I get started ?”
Getting started with surfing in Seignosse is an exciting and welcoming experience. When you arrive at a new beach and a new ocean, taking surf lessons in Seignosse helps you feel comfortable straight away. You’re guided by experienced local instructors who know the spot, understand the conditions, and are always there to support you.
Surfing as part of a group creates an instant sense of belonging. You get ready together, encourage each other, and share the stoke from your very first waves. For a sport that challenges both body and mind, learning this way is the most enjoyable and effective path forward. It’s how most people get to their feet quickly — and walk back up the beach smiling, already looking forward to the next session.
Your up and on your feet
Now you’re on your feet. You’re catching green waves, riding them straight, feeling the glide and the freedom it brings. From here, we guide you to the next step — trimming along the wave. This is where movement becomes flow, where time slows down, and where the real magic begins at Surf Camp Seignosse.
It’s time to turn
This is the moment when surfing really comes alive. You’re no longer just standing on the board — you’re moving with it. By rotating your shoulders and letting your eyes guide the direction, the board begins to respond naturally beneath your feet. You start watching the line of the wave unfold in front of you, reading its shape, its speed, and its energy. Instead of reacting, you begin to anticipate. You look where you want to go, choose your path, and feel the board follow.
This is where you start picking sections — soft shoulders, open faces, little pockets of energy — and gently linking your first turns together. Small cutbacks appear, then smoother, more confident ones. These early turns are pure magic: moments where timing, balance, and flow come together. Surfing becomes less about effort and more about expression, connection, and creativity in the water.
You’re on your own program
One of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of surfing is learning to surf for yourself, by yourself. At its heart, surfing is an individual form of expression — a personal relationship with the ocean, shaped by your rhythm, your timing, and your intuition. You might be on holiday while working digitally, with small windows of freedom when the conditions line up. You might sleep in, move slowly, or live for those golden sunset sessions when the crowds thin and the light softens.
That’s where Surf Camp Seignosse truly shines. Just two minutes up the hill from the parking, a quick surf check gives you everything you need. You look, you feel it, you go back, you work, you check again — and when it’s on, it’s on. Board under your arm, straight to the beach. No stress, no rush. Just you, the ocean, and the moment. Let’s go.
